2120 – Final Exam-session 3 (CC (part 2) and Enolates)

2120 – Final Exam-session 3 (CC (part 2) and Enolates)

Review Session Details
  • Learn the mechanism for ALL carbonyl reactions in acidic conditions (this includes acetals and imine formation)
  • Assessing the acidity of alpha-hydrogen
  • Know when you should do an enol/enolate reactions
  • Understanding how to use an enolate against various electrophiles using electron pushing arrows
  • Kinetic versus thermodynamic enols/enolates and when to make them
  • Reacting enolates with carbonyls (ex. Aldol reactions and Claisen reactions)
  • Understanding the complex carbonyl reactions: Bayer-Villiger and Wittig reactions (A simplified approach will be provided)
